Thousands of households in Glasgow have been left without water after a burst main just outside the city caused flooding. Scottish Water is investigating after customers reported an interruption to their water supply around 4pm on Tuesday, January 24.
The authority launched a probe and later located the burst main on Auchenhowie Road in Bearsden. Scottish Water have confirmed that there is flooding in the area and Scottish Fire and Rescue and police teams are at the scene.
Several roads have been closed down by police due to "significant flooding.
The supply issue is affecting properties mostly in the centre and west of the city. Postcodes that could be without water include: G1, G2, G3, G4, G5 G11, G12,G13, G15 G20, G51 and Bearsden G61.
Customers have been warned in these areas they may experience no water supply or low/intermittent water pressure, as well as discoloured water. Scottish Water said in a tweet: "We're investigating loss of water supply in the #G2 #G3 #G4 #G11 #G12 #G21 #G61 area. We'll update you as soon as more info is available. Apologies for any inconvenience caused this evening."
More and more areas have reported problems in the Glasgow area following the first initial problem. Scottish Water later said: "Located a burst on our 36" Trunk Main, which is affecting customers in postcodes G1, G2, G3, G4, G5, G11, G12, G13, G15, G20, G51 & G61.
"Our teams are currently working alongside the police and fire service, and as soon as more information becomes available, we will be in touch."
Greater Glasgow Police stated: "Due to significant flooding of the A81 (Glasgow Road) at its junction with the A807 (Auchenhowie Road) and the surrounding area, the following road closures are now in place:
