The Weeknd is quickly positioning himself as a rising media mogul. Still fresh off producing and co-wiring a new TV series that he'll star in later this year, the singer has followed the exact same blueprint for the big screen.The «Earned It» singer is set to star in his own yet-to-be-named film, which he also co-wrote (alongside Reza Fahim and Trey Edward Shults) and produced.
Born Abel Tesfaye, the artist has recruited some Hollywood heavyweights to help him get the project off the ground.Shults (, ) has been tapped as the director. Golden Globe and SAG Award nominee Jenna Ortega will also star alongside The Weeknd, and she'll also serve as an executive producer.
The film is currently in production in Los Angeles and the synopsis has not yet been revealed.Academy Award nominee Barry Keoghan (, ) has also joined the cast. Chayse Irvin (, ) is the director of photography and Daniel Lopatin (, ) will score the film alongside The Weeknd.As for the aforementioned TV series, ET confirmed back in 2021 that The Weeknd would star, produce and co-write the drama slated to stream on HBO at a yet-to-be-announced date this year. The series will follow a female pop singer (Lily-Rose Depp) who starts a romance with an enigmatic L.A.

Fury of the Gods,” playing the villainous Kalypso alongside Helen Mirren and “West Side Story” breakout Rachel Zegler. The three actors play the daughters of Atlas, who come to our planet to reclaim the magic that fuels Zachary Levi’s Shazam. Liu was recently asked by The Cut about starring in a superhero movie for the first time at 54 years old. “If it had happened earlier, it would have been miraculous,” Liu said. “It would have been a different story; my career would have been easier. There would have been more opportunity.” Sizable comic book movie roles for Asian-Americans simply did not exist when Liu was coming up in the industry. She had her action breakthrough playing Alex Munday opposite Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore in 2000’s “Charlie’s Angels” and its 2003 sequel, “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.”

For the second year in a row, the three-hour telecast will be getting its premiere network airing on CMT’s big sister network, CBS — along with a livestream on Paramount+ — and for the first time, it will be based out of Austin. The show goes out live from the Moody Center April 2 at 8 p.m. ET on the broadcast network and airs tape-delayed in the same time slot on the west coast. Several days after the broadcast and streaming premiere, the show will appear on its titular network, CMT, as an “extended cut” with 30 minutes of additional material, bringing the running time there to three and a half hours. That expanded edition bows on CMT April 6 at 8 ET/PT.

We do know that it is shooting in Los Angeles, but aside from that the “logline is being kept under wraps.” Whether comedy or tragedy, action adventure or musical extravaganza, this impressively vague feature has lined up a top shelf cast. Beyond The Weeknd, a Grammy-winning recording juggernaut, the film also stars Jenna Ortega, the star of “Wednesday” and “Scream VI,” as well as Barry Keoghan, the Oscar-nominated actor from “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “The Killing of a Sacred Deer.”
