'The Little Mermaid': Melissa McCarthy's Ursula Makes Quick Appearance in New Teaser

The Movie Academy has padded the presenter ranks for the 95th Oscars this weekend. Halle Bailey, Antonio Banderas, Elizabeth Banks, Jessica Chastain, John Cho, Andrew Garfield, Hugh Grant, Danai Gurira, Salma Hayek Pinault, Nicole Kidman, Florence Pugh and Sigourney Weaver will present statuettes Sunday.

Both her casting announcement in 2019 and the film’s first trailer last year sent racist trolls into a tizzy online. “As a Black person, you just expect it and it’s not really a shock anymore,” Bailey now told The Face in a new cover story interview. ​”When [Chlöe and I] first signed to Parkwood, [Beyoncé] was always like: ​’I never read my comments. Don’t ever read the comments.’ Honestly, when the teaser came out, I was at the D23 Expo and I was so happy. I didn’t see any of the negativity.”

It’s been a while since Disney released a live-action remake exclusively in theatres. Whether that’s a good or bad thing is up to the audience, but Rob Marshall’s “The Little Mermaid” marks Disney’s first theatrical-exclusive live-action remake since Jon Favreau’s “The Lion King” was released in 2019.
