Producer and Blueprint Pictures co-founder Graham Broadbent was traveling in South America when he received the script for Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin. After immersing himself into the lives of the people on the tiny island, he knew he had his next McDonagh movie. Broadbent and the Irish playwright previously made In Bruges (2008), Seven Psychopaths (2012) and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) together, with Bruges and Billboard scoring Original Screenplay Oscar nominations.
Starring Colin Ferrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan, Searchlight Pictures’ Banshees follows Pádraic (Farrell) and Colm (Gleeson), besties who find themselves at a standstill when Colm unexpectedly puts an end to their friendship. A stunned Pádraic, aided by his sister Siobhán (Condon) and troubled young islander Dominic (Keoghan), aims to fix the relationship, against Colm’s wishes. Pádraic’s repeated efforts only strengthen his former friend’s resolve, and when Colm delivers a desperate ultimatum, events swiftly escalate with shocking consequences.

Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin promises a reunion of the In Bruges team of Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, and it overdelivers, featuring supporting performances from both Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan that are attracting the attention of awards groups internationally. And he was the highlight of this year’s The Batman, becoming the latest actor to play the Joker, even though his single scene didn’t make the final cut.

Every film is personal, said Steven Spielberg, “but The Fabelmans was like moving back in with my parents and my sisters. I would walk into the house that [production designer] Rick Carter designed, exactly the spitting image of the house I grew up in in Phoenix, Arizona. Everything in my bedroom from those years wound up on the set. They say you can’t go home again. That’s wrong, I went home every single day.”
