Southbank Centre announces 50th anniversary celebration of David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane album

With videos including ‘Reggae Panther Pride’, the videos retell the story of Rock Against Racism in a way designed for primary school students, and teach them the importance of embracing our differences and coming together through music.Five of the six resources were made in collaboration with veteran grime artist Manga St Hilare and feature narration from the aforementioned musicians.

Nick Vivarelli International Correspondent Brian Eno, the influential British musician, producer and visual artist who has helped define and reinvent the sound of top music artists including David Bowie, U2, Talking Heads, and Coldplay, will be honored by the Venice Biennale Music section with its Golden Lion for lifetime achievement.  Eno is being honored “for his research into the quality, beauty and diffusion of digital sound and for his conception of the acoustic space as a compositional instrument,” the Biennale said in a statement. Eno, 74, who describes himself as a ‘non-musician’ is best known for his contributions to ambient music and work in rock, pop and electronica and has been on the cutting edge of technology and artistic innovation for the past 50 years.

Pearl Jam have announced a 25th anniversary reissue package for their album ‘Yield’.The Seattle grunge icons’ fifth studio album came out in February 1998 and featured the singles ‘Do The Evolution’ and ‘Given To Fly’.To celebrate its birthday, the album will be reissued on translucent red and black vinyl via Vinyl Me, Please. It will be the first release from the company’s new audiophile-grade pressing plant in Denver, Colorado.

The Clash, Gorillaz and The Good, The Bad and The Queen, has teamed up with singer-songwriter Galen Ayres for a new project.The pair are set to release their debut album, ‘Can We Do Tomorrow Another Day?’, under the name Galen & Paul, on May 19. The album comprises a collection of bilingual duets, with both singers singing in English and Spanish, in which they explore a variety of European music cultures.Per a press release, the album began coming together in lockdown, which Simonon spent in a Mallorcan fishing village writing music and painting. David Bowie Is…’ exhibition is set to be made into permanent UK venue celebrating his legacy.The exhibition, which first went on show 2013, will now be housed in the new David Bowie Centre for the Study of Performing Arts at the V&A’s East Storehouse, in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.It will open from 2025 and made possible by a £10million donation from the Blavatnik Family Foundation and Warner Music Group.The centre will feature more than 80,000 items from across Bowie’s boundary-breaking 60-year career.V&A Director Dr Tristram Hunt said: “David Bowie was one of the greatest musicians and performers of all time. The V&A is thrilled to become custodians of his incredible archive, and to be able to open it up for the public.

The archive contains items including handwritten notebooks, letters, costumes, instruments, awards, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs and more — many of which were exhibited during the “David Bowie Is” traveling museum exhibit that was viewed by more than 2 million people between 2013 and 2018. According to the announcement, “It also includes more intimate writings, thought processes and unrealised projects, the majority of which have never been seen in public before.” The items are set to go on display in 2025 at The David Bowie Centre for the Study of Performing Arts in Stratford, which was also unveiled today.

Daft Punk have announced a 10th anniversary expanded edition of their final album ‘Random Access Memories’.The reissue features 35 minutes of outtakes and unheard demos across nine tracks. It will be available across various formats including 3 LPs, 2 CDs, streaming platforms and additionally a spatial audio (Atmos) mix of the original album will be made available for the first time.It will be released on May 12 and can be pre-ordered here.
