Former manager Sir Alex Ferguson has wished Phil Jones all the very best for the future after Manchester United confirmed that he will leave the club this summer.
The Reds confirmed on Friday morning that the centre-back will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of next month, bringing his 12-year stay in M16 to an end. He has not made a single appearance for United this season and was last visible in a training session at Carrington exactly a year ago.
Jones, 31, has struggled with a serious knee injury over the last few years, restricting him to just two starts in the last three years. He last appeared for the Reds on May 2 last year, stepping off the bench as a substitute during a 3-0 win over Brentford.

The former England international will leave United having made 229 appearances for the club, 65 of which were under Ferguson, who signed Jones from Blackburn Rovers in June 2011. He made more appearances for the club under Ferguson than any other manager.
And following confirmation of Jones' impending exit, Ferguson has wished him the best of luck for whatever happens next in his career.
Ferguson, appearing in a short film put together by MUTV, said: "Hi Phil, it's the old boss here.
"I just wanted to thank you for the great service you have given our club for 12 years since I signed you as a young boy from Blackburn Rovers. You have given the club fantastic service.
"I wish you good luck and thank you for all of your great work for the club. All the best."
