Scots folk rockers Peat & Diesel are set to be exposed to a new global audience of millions after their tune was picked up to soundtrack a new Disney+ series. The trio said they were "delighted and privileged" to have their track featured in new superhero show Extraordinary.
The band - made up of Boydie MacLeod, Inness Scott and Uilly Macleod - were approached by the entertainment goliath to have their song Western Isles on the eight-part show. Extraordinary was released on the streaming service today and is set in a world where everyone except main character Jen develops superpowers.
Writing on Twitter, the band said: "Delighted and privileged to be asked by Disney+ for use of our music on one of the episodes of 'Extraordinary' which will premiere today on the channel. For all those with access to Disney+ you can now access all eight episodes today."
They added: "It’s just a snippet, however still VERY COOL!" Fans took to social media to congratulate the band on the achievement, and even suggested that it could lead to bigger and better things.
One wrote: "This is what happened to Alabama 3 and the Sopranos theme. You could be huge in America." Another wrote: "Yet another amazing recognition of your artistic talents. Congratulations."
The global platform is a milestone achievement for the Stornoway outfit. Disney+ has more than 164million subscribers across the world, according to figures released by the House of Mouse last year.
It's also a far cry from their humble origins, formed out of Saturday night jam sessions on the Isle of Lewis. The trio began playing gigs in 2018, and have since performed at the likes of the Belladrum music festival and even held their own headline gig at Glasgow's legendary Barrowland Ballroom.
