‘Reservation Dogs’ Renewed by FX for Season 3 on Hulu

EXCLUSIVE: Disney Branded Television has ordered an historic seventh season for its hit comedy series Bunk’d.

Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur has gotten an early Season 2 renewal. Disney Branded Television has ordered a second season of the animated series ahead of its Feb. 10 premiere. The animated show debuts first Disney Channel and shortly thereafter on Disney+. The news, along with a clip from the theme song, “Moon Girl Magic,” written and produced by executive music producer Raphael Saadiq and performed by series star Diamond White (voice of Lunella aka Moon Girl), was revealed today during the series’ panel at New York Comic Con.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Keanu Reeves will no longer star in the Hulu series adaptation of “The Devil in the White City,” Variety has learned exclusively from sources. The show was first put into development at Hulu in 2019 and was officially ordered to series at the streamer in August 2022. It is based on the book of the same name by by Erik Larson. Per the official logline, the show “tells the true story of Daniel H. Burnham, a demanding but visionary architect who races to make his mark on history with the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, and Dr. H. H. Holmes, America’s first modern serial killer and the man behind the notorious ‘Murder Castle’ built in the Fair’s shadow.”

Joe Otterson TV Reporter “The Legend of Vox Machina” has been renewed for Season 3 at Amazon. The announcement was made as part of the show’s New York Comic Con panel. The show was renewed for a second season ahead of the series premiere, with Season 2 set to debut in January. Amazon also released a first look at Season 2, which can be seen below. Per the official description of the new season, “After saving the realm from evil and destruction at the hands of the most terrifying power couple in Exandria, Vox Machina is faced with saving the world once again—this time, from a sinister group of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave.” “The Legend of Vox Machina” is based on the characters and adventures featured in Critical Role, a web series in which a group of voice actors get together to play “Dungeons & Dragons.” The first season of “The Legend of Vox Machina” followed the Briarwood arc from Critical Role’s first campaign.

Selome Hailu Hulu has renewed adult animated comedy “Solar Opposites” for its fifth season. The news was announced at a panel discussion about the series at New York Comic Con on Thursday. The Season 5 renewal comes before the show’s fourth season has even debuted. Season 3 of the series arrived on Hulu in July, with Season 4 set to premiere with 12 episodes sometime in 2023. The series has aired several holiday specials, most recently “Sinister Halloween Scary Opposites Solar Special,” which arrived on Hulu on Oct. 3. Justin Roiland, best known for creating Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty” with Dan Harmon, co-created “Solar Opposites” along with “Star Trek: Lower Decks” creator Mike McMahan. The series centers around a team of four aliens who are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Roiland) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) only see the pollution, crass consumerism and human frailty while Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love their TV, junk food and fun stuff. Their mission is to protect the Pupa, a living super computer that will one day evolve into its true form, consume them and terraform the Earth. Season 3 saw the group of aliens strive to become less of a team and more of a family.

Selome Hailu Amazon Prime Video has renewed “Outer Range” for a second season. Charles Murray, who is under an overall deal at Amazon Studios, is joining the series as showrunner after Season 1 was showrun by creator Brian Watkins. Watkins will continue executive producing. The Western sci-fi drama stars Josh Brolin as Royal Abbott, a rancher who is fighting to protect his family and discovers a mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. The Abbotts are coping with the disappearance of daughter-in-law Rebecca (Kristen Connolly) and are pushed further to the brink when the Tillersons, the gaudy owners of the neighboring profit-driven ranch, make a play for their land. An untimely death in the community sets off a chain of events that come to a head with the arrival of a mysterious black void in the Abbotts’ west pasture. Imogen Poots, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercrombie and Will Patton also star.

Whew. Honestly, we were getting worried for a minute. But Amazon Studios has announced a second season for “Outer Range,” the sci-fi western that stars Josh Brolin, Lili Taylor and Imogen Poots.

Rock the Block will be back for a fourth season. HGTV has renewed the hit renovation competition series, hosted by Ty Pennington (Battle on the Beach), for a new six-episode season. It’s slated to premiere in March.

Taika Waititi’s cast for his Apple TV+ comedy series “Time Bandits” has assembled. Led by “Friends” alum Lisa Kudrow, who is playing ‘Penelope, the series will also star Kal-El Tuck (“Unseeing Evil,” “Band in the Sand”) as Kevin; Charlyne Yi (“Knocked up,” “Paper Heart,” “The Second Act”) as Judy; Tadhg Murphy (“Conversations with Friends,” “Black Sails,” “Brassic,” “Undergods”) as Alto; Roger Jean Nsengiyumva (“You Don’t know Me,” “Tomb Raider”) as Widgit; Rune Temte (“Eddie The Eagle,” “The Last Kingdom,” “Captain Marvel”) as Bittelig; Kiera Thompson (“Martyrs Lane,” “Salisbury Poisonings”) as Saffron; and Rachel House (“Heartbreak High,” “Thor Ragnarok”) as Fianna.The “Time Bandits” series “is a comedic journey through time and space with a ragtag group of thieves and their newest recruit: an eleven-year-old history nerd,” per Apple TV+. Selome Hailu Somm TV, a streaming service dedicated to food, wine and travel content, has greenlit a second season of competition series “Sparklers.” Joel McHale has joined the series as a celebrity guest judge. “Sparklers,” which received a James Beard Award nomination for its first season, follows contestants as they compete to cook different meals and pair them with sparkling wines. Each episode is divided into two parts: The first features a guest judge while in the second, contestants come together to judge themselves. Among the Season 2 cast is Shakera Jones, who hosts the Somm TV podcast “A Glass For Every Palate” and is the founder of the website BlackGirlsDineToo.

AMC Networks already likes the looks of where those bloodsuckers are headed: It has renewed Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire for a second season, ahead of the new series’ debut on AMC and AMC+ on October 2.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Hulu has ordered an eight-episode limited series based on the Rebecca Godfrey novel “Under the Bridge,” Variety has learned. Quinn Shephard is adapting the book for the screen and will serve as an executive producer. Samir Mehta and Liz Tigelaar will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, with Tigelaar executive producing under her Best Day Ever banner. Stacey Silverman of Best Day Ever will also executive produce along with Godfrey. Geeta Patel serves as director and executive producer. ABC Signature will produce, with Best Day Ever currently under an overall deal at the studio. Per the official description of the series from Hulu, the story follows “the 1997 true story of fourteen-year-old Reena Virk who went to join friends at a party and never returned home. Godfrey takes us into the hidden world of the seven teenage girls and a boy accused of the savage murder, revealing startling truths about the unlikely killer.”

The announcement was made immediately following the conclusion of Season 24. “A big thank you to all our house guests for an absolutely incredible summer,” series host Julie Chen-Moonves said in a message posted to Twitter. “I know. I’m going to miss watching the show too, but I’ve got a great plan. This fall, spend some time watching other CBS competition shows. We’ve got ‘Survivor,’ we’ve got ‘The Amazing Race,’ and now we’ve got ‘The Real Love Boat.’ That’ll get you prepped for next summer. That’s right! CBS has confirmed that Big Brother will be returning for Season 25 in the summer of 2023. The news comes after the show crowned its winner for Season 24 making history once again.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter The “Queer as Folk” reboot has been canceled after one season at Peacock, Variety has learned. The entire first season of the show was released on the streamer on June 9. It originally received a straight-to-series order at Peacock in April 2021. The show followed a group of friends in New Orleans who must deal with the aftermath of a shooting at a queer nightclub. The cast included Fin Argus, CG, Jesse James Keitel, Ryan O’Connell, Johnny Sibilly, Devin Way, and Kim Cattrall, among others. Stephen Dunn created the series and served as an executive producer along with Jaclyn Moore, Lee Eisenberg, Emily Brecht, original series creator Russell T. Davies, Nicola Shindler, and Richard Halliwell on behalf of NENT Studios UK, which distributes the format. UCP is the studio.

FX’s “Reservation Dogs” has been renewed for a third season, Nick Grad, president of original programming at the network, announced Thursday. The dramedy, which centers on a ragtag group of adolescents on an Oklahoma reservation, will return to Hulu in 2023.The AFI Award and Peabody Award-winning show will conclude its second season on Sept.

Netflix is doubling down on dating.

Jennifer Maas TV Business Writer “Alex vs America” has been renewed for a third season at Food Network, Variety has learned exclusively. Production is set to begin this month on Season 3 of the primetime cable series, with new episodes to debut next year.  “Alex vs America” Season 2, which aired July 31-Sept. 11, averaged more than 9.1 million total viewers, up 44% from Season 1, and a 0.6 rating with adults ages 18 and up, an increase of 17%, according to Nielsen’s Live + 3 Day ratings.
