It's no news that Brits love tea, but it is the brown stains a brew leaves behind that can be a nuisance.
The tannic acid is what gives the beloved beverage its dark, brown colour and is a strong dye that is potent enough to leave marks on your favourite mug. Luckily, Mrs Hinch fans have revealed the ultimate hack for banishing tea stains and it costs just nine pence a go.
Followers of the cleaning guru have come to the rescue once again, posting the tip to the Mrs Hinch cleaning tips Facebook page after one member asked:"Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean the tea stains from the inside of my flask please?
"I have tried baking powder & a soft brush, but made no difference."
On the social media page where scrubbing enthusiasts give each other advice, the majority recommended using dishwashing tablets and powder with some hot water to banish the stains.
One comment advised: "A scoop of washing powder in hot water, left overnight. My husband does this," while another echoed this advice, writing: "I use dishwashing powder in mugs with hot water and leave overnight so that should work for your flask too."
A standard pack of 40 dishwasher tablets costs £3.65 in Tesco, which breaks down to just nine pence per tablet. The woman who originally asked for help decided to take their advice and was happy with the outcome.
Writing a follow up comment, she said: "Excellent results, I used half a dishwasher tablet & left it for about 12 hours. The colour of the water was foul and a lump of sludgy stuff came out as well. Thanks everyone."
Using just half a tablet makes the hack even cheaper, meaning it cost about four and a half pence to get her flask sparkling clean.
