100 sexiest stars in cinema history by Empire magazine. Playboy named her the third sexiest star of the 20th century. Her film credits included Bedazzled in 1967, playing the part of Lust Incarnate in a film which also starred Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.
Other appearances included Myra Breckinridge in 1970. She went on to win a Golden Globe for her role in Three Musketeers in 1974. Welch also appeared in several television specials and won a Golden Globe for her role in the 1987 film, Right to Die.
The brunette star's portrayal of strong female characters was credited with reshaping the stereotype of the traditional sex symbol, and her rise to fame was also seen as eclipsing Hollywood's embrace of the blonde bombshell. She was born Jo Raquel Tejada in Chicago in 1940. She was married four times, and has a daughter, Tahnee and a son, Damon.
Her son married the daughter of England and Yorkshire fast bowler, Fred Trueman. Her father was Bolivian while her mother was from the US. In 2002, she addressed her Latino heritage saying: “I’m happy to acknowledge it and it’s long overdue and it’s very welcome.
“There’s been kind of an empty place here in my heart and also in my work for a long, long time. ”Reese Witherspoon led tributes to Welch, describing her as "elegant, professional and glamorous beyond belief". Witherspoon, who worked with Welch on the 2001 cult classic film Legally Blonde, said she was "simply stunning".
"So sad to hear about Raquel Welch's passing," she wrote on Twitter. "I loved working with her on Legally Blonde. She was elegant , professional and glamorous beyond belief.
