Phillip Schofield is set to present a new prime time series later this year, ITV chiefs have confirmed. The news comes as the beloved television presenter stepped down from the channel's flagship morning show, This Morning, after 21 years on the presenting sofa, 14 years of which were with pal and Dancing On Ice co-host Holly Willoughby. Much to fans' surprise, the This Morning episode which aired on Thursday, May 18, will act as Phillip's last episode as he is not set to appear on the programme to say goodbye to viewers or colleagues now his exit has been confirmed with "immediate effect".
But there is some good news for Phil's fans, as he'll be back on screens in June for The British Soap Awards and is set to present a new prime time series. Confirming his upcoming role, ITV's managing director, media and entertainment, Kevin Lygo said: "Phillip is hands-down one of the best broadcasters of his generation and we thank him for his two decades worth of absolutely terrific television on the This Morning sofa. "This Morning is made by one of the best and most diligent teams in television, who produce over 12 hours of live television each week.
"We look forward to continuing our relationship with Phillip starting with The British Soap Awards in June and a brand new peak time series to come." While Phillip added in a statement on Saturday: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story. "Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind.
