Phil Jones has thanked Manchester United fans for supporting him throughout his time at Old Trafford in an emotional letter after his departure at the end of the season was confirmed.
Jones' United contract expires next month and his deal will not be renewed, rendering him a free agent after 12 years at the club.
The defender joined United from Blackburn Rovers in 2011 and won the Premier League in the following season (2012/13), which was Sir Alex Ferguson's final campaign in charge.

His recent years have been plagued by injury concerns and Jones has discussed the mental difficulty of sustaining setbacks.
The centre-back has not made a single appearance with Erik ten Hag in charge this term due to his physical condition and ahead of his exit he penned the following letter to fans to thank them for their support.

I thought about how best to present my words to everyone and felt that I wanted to reach the fans who have supported me throughout my time at Manchester United.
It’s always tough to leave a club. I did so already with Blackburn Rovers, all those years ago aged only 19, but I could never imagine what was to follow.
My time at United has been nothing short of incredible. When I decided to leave Blackburn, I always wanted to prove myself further. I’d represented my boyhood club, and lived a dream, but I was desperate to show everyone what I could do at the highest level.
I had this hunger inside me and I was desperate to continue that at a club that could challenge for everything. I had offers from a few clubs but I was waiting and waiting for the call from United. One day, on holiday, the phone rang from Sir Alex.
