Paul Dano reveals ‘a tracking device’ was kept with ‘The Batman’ script

Andy Serkis has had a busy 2022 this year with supporting roles as Alfred in Matt Reeves‘ “The Batman” and inmate Kino Loy in “Andor,” airing on Disney+ now. But thanks to those gigs, Serkis had to leave behind some other projects he was involved in, like the “Venom” franchise, which he directed the second installment of last year.

In the wake of the formation of DC Studios by Warner Bros. Discovery, Matt Reeves continues to forge on, expanding his own cinematic universe spun off from the hit feature film, “The Batman.” Multiple HBO Max shows and a second movie is on the horizon.

There’s a new showrunner at the helm of HBO Max’s The Batman prequel series about Arkham Asylum. The Staircase creator Antonio Campos has been tapped to serve as showrunner-executive producer and also will direct on the series, Deadline has confirmed.

When it was announced that Paul Dano was going to play The Riddler in “The Batman,” fans were surprised but excited. Dano doesn’t strike people as the type of actor who would go for a big franchise superhero film, but when you see him, you can fully understand why he was chosen for the role.

Movie studios go to great lengths to keep storylines from their films to leak and superhero movies are known to take the secrecy one step further. Paul Dano is opening up about his time filming The Batman and the “special binder” that had a “tracking device” to maintain everything under wraps.

While “Black Adam” is on the horizon, “Joker 2” is putting a cast together, and a sequel to “The Batman” is in the early development stages, there is still some mystery about where things will be going next for DC Films. A rather large update has been dropped today, giving us a small idea of what else could be coming, such as a mystery film from James Gunn (“The Suicide Squad,” “Peacemaker”) and a sequel to “Man of Steel,” with Henry Cavill reprising the Superman role.

Zack Sharf Paul Dano has been acting since the early 2000s, but it took playing the Riddler opposite Robert Pattinson in “The Batman” for the world to start noticing the 38-year-old in his every day life. As part of a new GQ cover story, Dano said he now gets recognized in public when he least expects it. One example: When he goes to get the mail. “Like a mailman: ‘Oh, shit!! Riddler!!” the actor said. “When it was said I was going to do that part, I never received that many texts, phone calls, emails,” Dano added later in the interview, noting the production went to extreme lengths to ensure none of Dano’s Riddler production materials would get lost or leaked.

Sony recently swooped in to land distribution rights after the film was recently announced a this years Toronto Film Festival. Sony Pictures also holds Latin America, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, South Africa, India and select Asian rights.

Pierce Brosnan was once in the running to play Batman, and he is looking back on his campaign to embody the caped crusader.

Phil Cohen has joined Paramount Pictures as Senior Vice President of Literary Affairs. Cohen comes to Paramount from Warner Bros., where he was a literary exec responsible for sourcing and developing books, comics, long-form articles and podcasts for Warner Bros., New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. TV and HBO Max.  

Zack Sharf Pierce Brosnan is joining the DC Universe with his role as Doctor Fate in “Black Adam,” but in a different universe the James Bond actor might have been none other than Bruce Wayne/Batman. Brosnan revealed on “The Tonight Show” that he met with Tim Burton to audition for the director’s 1989 “Batman” movie, but a “stupid” comment cost him the role. “It was the last thing on my mind to be playing a superhero like Doctor Fate,” Brosnan said, adding that he’s rarely been offered roles in superhero movies throughout his career. “No, not really no. I mean, I went up for ‘Batman’ way back in the day when Tim Burton was doing it. Obviously, I didn’t get the job.”

Penguin spin-off series.In a recent interview with ExtraTV, the actor revealed that the new show will pick up a week after the events of The Batman, which saw Gotham City flooded following a terrorist attack plotted by the Riddler.“[The Penguin series] starts about a week after The Batman ends, so Gotham is still somewhat underwater,” said Farrell.He then detailed the very first scene of the series, saying: “I read the first script for the first episode and it opens up with my feet splashing through the water in Falcone’s office. Even just that alone when I read it, I thought, “Oh jeeze!”.“It’s lovely,” he continued.
