Stars and fans turned out in droves to wish Outlander author Diana Gabaldon a very happy birthday as she turned 70. The prolific writer, who has just released her ninth book in the Outlander series – Go Tell The Bees – took to Twitter to thank people for their well wishes.
Stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe were among the first to offer happy returns, and the official Outlander account tweeted: "Without her, there's no Claire, no Jamie, no Ridge, no romance, no drama, no magic and simply put, no Outlander. Happy Birthday to Diana (@Writer_DG) to whom we all owe so much."
Sam added: "Happy Birthday to Herself! Much love to you Gabs x"
Producer Maril T Davies got in on the act, adding: "Thank you for being born and for giving us the gift of Outlander."
Composer Bear McReary as well as actors Scott Kyle (Ross the Smith), Tim Downie (Governor Tryon), Annette Badland (Mrs Fitz) and Graham McTavish (who offered to bring some tequila).
French actor César Domboy (Fergus Claudel Fraser) even went as far as to record a Cameo for her.
Fan groups Outlander Sweden and Outlandish also got in on the act offering tributes.
The author herself took time to thank everyone and even posted a short essay from 1999 Myth and Mountain Birthdays, which details a little more about her background which you can read here.
She wrote: "Many thanks to all of the kind folks who have been sending me sweet birthday wishes! It’s a pleasure and a privilege to have so many thoughtful, nice persons among my acquaintance."
We hope she had a great day, and managed to take a wee break from not only writing book 10 and the Outlander prequels, but also helping with scripts for season 7 and taking time to answer questions about her writing routine.
