Northern Lights captured on beach as Scottish photographer nabs stunning images

A photographer has shared stunning shots he was able to take of the Northern Lights from his local beach in East Lothian.
Kris Bird ventured down to Whitesands Beach in Dunbar to catch the aurora borealis in person. However, due to adverse conditions, he was unsure if he would be able to get a glimpse of the natural phenomenon.
But around 9.30pm on Sunday, the Northern Lights became visible over the beach. Not only was Bird able to see the stunning display with his own eyes, but he was able to capture images on his camera.
Using his Sony Alpha a7 r4 camera, Manfrotto tripod and a 20mm F 1.8 Sony G lens, he took a number of photos of the beautiful dancing waves of light.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Bird commented: "With the conditions that night being cloudy, I did not hold out much hope of capturing any images whatsoever of the Northern Lights.
"But luckily I decided to be patient and wait a little longer. My patience finally paid off, and at 9:30pm I was rewarded with a great show of green, pinks and reds.
"I was so glad I decided to be patient and stay longer. I had a composition in mind when heading out that night. I wanted to reflect the colours in the circular rock pools.
"Although the cloud in the image was partially covering the full effects of the aurora, I feel that it helped to break up the image, causing a dramatic effect.
"That night the Northern Lights could be seen with the naked eye, but when using your camera on long exposure, the pastel hues of the green, pink and reds were shown in more detail."
