Emanuel Okusanya Governors Ball — New York’s biggest music festival and one of the largest in the country — returned over the weekend with a stellar lineup: headliners Kendrick Lamar, Lizzo and Odesza, along with top-billed sets from Ice Spice, Lil Nas X, Haim, Giveon, Central Cee and many more. The festival, which was traditionally held on Randall’s Island, made its debut at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens (near Citi Field Stadium), and as always there was way too much for any one person to take in, so we’ve got several highlights — but by no means all — below. Governors Ball 2023 have confirmed that the festival is still set to go ahead as scheduled, despite the unhealthy air quality in New York.This year’s instalment is set to take place at its new home of Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens this weekend (June 9-11), and will feature headline slots from Kendrick Lamar, Lizzo, and Odesza.However, the future of the 2023 festival was thrown into question following the city experiencing an air quality crisis. Created by over 400 active wildfires taking place in Canada, vast stretches of smoke have spread across several states in the northeastern part of the country — with the air quality in New York described as “very unhealthy” by Mayor Eric Adams (via New York Times).As of yesterday (June 7), CBS reported that the haze conditions meant that the city had some of the worst pollution in the world, and residents were urged to limit their exposure to the outdoor air until the situation passes.Despite the conditions, organisers of Governors Ball have confirmed that the three-day festival is expected to go ahead as planned.“We’re closely monitoring the air quality with weather experts and are in close contact with city officials,” a statement from the festival read, shared on Twitter.

We may be almost half way through the year (how, please?), but 2023 still has a lot in store on the new music front.

Ominous weather aside, however, the Governors Ball Music Festival is still going ahead this weekend (June 9-11).

Ethan Shanfeld Despite the air quality crisis in New York due to the Canada wildfires, as of Wednesday afternoon the Governors Ball festival is still set to take place this weekend in Queens. “We’re closely monitoring the air quality with weather experts and are in close contact with city officials,” a representative for the music festival said in a statement to Variety. “As always, the health and safety of New Yorkers is our top priority. At this time, the festival is continuing as planned. We are hopeful that conditions will improve in the coming days and are looking forward to a great weekend!” The three-day music fest, often referred to as Gov Ball, is scheduled for June 9-11 at Flushing Meadows with headliners Lizzo, Odesza and Kendrick Lamar. Lil Nas X, Haim, Lil Uzi Vert, Rina Sawayama, Diplo, Lil Baby, Omar Apollo, Pusha T, Aespa, Giveon and Sofi Tukker are also set to perform.

In what is turning out to be a very busy month for Madonna, the superstar has announced a new single with none other than Sam Smith. The tune, titled “Vulgar,” will be available on June 9.Madonna made the release official through her social media platforms, where she shared the single’s artwork. The song’s cover consists of a black-and-white photograph featuring two tightly laced corsets, with both Madonna’s and Smith’s initials cleverly forming “S&M,” boldly displayed.

Lewis Capaldi brought Radio 1’s Big Weekend to a close in truly epic style. The Scottish singer-songwriter was part of an epic line-up for this year’s festival in Dundee, playing alongside the likes of Anne-Marie, the Jonas Brothers, Raye, and Saturday night headliners The 1975. Also on the bill were Thirty Seconds To Mars, who were originally due to play yesterday, before technical difficulties led to a change in scheduling.

Kelly Clarkson is taking her eponymous talk show to New York City, all in the name of family.It was first announced in early May that Clarkson would be moving from its longtime home in Los Angeles to Manhattan, and now the pop superstar and daytime talk show host is explaining the reasons for the big switch.Speaking with Nancy O'Dell on the TalkShopLive podcast recently, Clarkson explained that she first broke the news of the move to her staff back in January.«I talked to them because I was like, 'Guys, I need you to know what’s happening.
