Dermot O'Leary is said to be the "favourite" to replace Phillip Schofield on This Morning, after the latter announced his departure over the weekend, after 21 years of fronting the show. Dermot's Friday co-host Alison Hammond is also said to be in the running, after striking up a firm friendship with Holly Willoughby, who is remaining on the show without Phillip.
Bookmaker Coral has reported that Dermot, however, has overtaken Alison as the favourite to secure a more regular slot on This Morning. Coral said: "Following support in our betting, Dermot O'Leary has jumped to the top of the betting to replace Phillip Schofield permanently on This Morning." Alison is still the second favourite to regularly present alongside Holly with high odds currently sitting at 6-4, whilst other names in the running include Rochelle Humes.
Coral's John Hill explained: "Alison Hammond and Rochelle Humes are very familiar with This Morning and are strong contenders for the job according to our odds." OK! has contacted ITV for comment. Rochelle is one of the few ITV stars to publicly come out in support of Phillip, who left the show last week after mounting pressure, amid rumours of a "feud" with former co-host and best pal, Holly.
Sharing three snaps of herself and the star on screen together, Rochelle said: "I’ve proudly been a part of the This Morning family for almost 10 years and over the last few, it has been an absolutely pleasure learning so much from you. ‘Thanks for all the lessons – you’re a fountain of love, knowledge and laughter." This Morning TV chef Clodagh McKenna also paid tribute to Phillip, for which she was praised by show fans.
