Chris Rock Jokes Paul Pelosi Is ‘Only Guy Who Knows How I Felt’ After Oscars Slap

Ethan Shanfeld While toasting Adam Sandler at the Kennedy Center Honors Sunday night, Chris Rock called out the Oscars for snubbing his performance in “Uncut Gems.” Honoring his longtime pal and “Grown Ups” co-star with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, Rock said “nobody comes even close” to Sandler’s turn as the gambling-addicted jeweler Howard Ratner in the Safdie brothers’ 2019 film. “The Oscars, you know, they’re fucking assholes, and if they don’t want to give my man his props, then we will tonight,” Rock said (via People). The comedian also joked about his own Oscars experience, referencing the 2022 ceremony when Will Smith walked onstage and slapped Rock. He compared the incident to the attack against Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul, who was hospitalized after a man broke into his San Francisco home and beat him with a hammer.

Twenty Years After U.S.-Led Invasion of Iraq, Filmmakers Examine Build Up to War, Challenges in Present Day Baghdad

Addie Morfoot Contributor Monday marks the 20th anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. CPH:DOX will reflect on the repercussions of the war, which ousted Saddam Hussein, but never led to the discovery of weapons of mass destruction, by screening two documentaries: Greta Stocklassa’s “Blix Not Bombs” and Karrar Al-Azzawi’s “Baghdad on Fire.”“(The invasion) was an event that has shaped international politics over the course of the last two decades in unpredictable and often devastating ways,” says CPH:DOX head of program Mads Mikkelsen. “Not least inside Iraq itself. (‘Blix Not Bombs’ and ‘Baghdad on Fire’) provide two different takes – a shot and reverse shot – on the course of events back in 2003 and on the current situation in Iraq as seen from the inside and through the eyes of the young.”“Blix Not Bombs” follows Hans Blix, the former head of the U.N. Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission, who was sent to Iraq in 2002 to determine whether U.S. suspicions that the country was manufacturing weapons of mass destruction were founded. Though the final report found no evidence of an Iraqi weapons program under Hussein, the U.S. and a coalition of allies nevertheless decided to invade the country. Now in the final stretch of his life, Blix questions whether he did enough to prevent a war whose impact is felt to this day.

Netflix Pulls Plug On Nancy Meyers’ New Project Due To Budget Issue

Following news last week that Netflix and director Nancy Meyers were at crossroads over the budget on her next film, sources close to the situation say the streamer has decided to part ways with the project. Deadline reported last week that Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, Penelope Cruz and Michael Fassbender were in talks to star but that the budget, which sources say was coming in around $130 million, was causing issues. Sources now say, that while the studio was fine with $130 million, Meyers was still fighting for $150 million, with $80 million of that going to above the line costs. With both sides refusing to budge on the budget, sources say Netflix was leaning toward fully moving off the film over the weekend with the plug ultimately getting pulled this morning.

BuzzFeed Has Most of Its Cash in Failed Silicon Valley Bank

it had approximately $487 million held by Silicon Valley Bank. The company said that the number represents approximately 26% of its cash and cash equivalents, and the company will be able meet its pending financial obligations for at least “the next 12 months and beyond.”The Santa Clara-based Silicon Valley Bank was closed Friday by the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, marking a major ending to what had for decades been one of the pillars of financing in the tech industry economy. The bank first made headlines Wednesday after it notified investors that it needed to raise just over $2 billion to offset $1.8 billion in losses it incurred from investments in mortgage-backed securities, which were devalued thanks to the Fed’s decision to raise interest rates. The next day, dozens of SVB’s venture capital clients — urged on by a venture capital fund founded by billionaire Peter Thiel and others — started pulling their assets from the bank, which one investor previously described as “a hysteria-induced bank run.”The customers withdrew $42 billion by the end of Thursday, according to California regulatory filings, and as a result the bank was left with a negative cash balance of $958 million.

documents filed Friday, Roku disclosed that it had approximately $487 million held by Silicon Valley Bank, the Northern California financial powerhouse that failed this week, sending shockwaves throughout the region’s economy. That number, Roku says, represents approximately 26% of its cash and cash equivalents, and the company will be able meet its pending financial obligations for at least “the next 12 months and beyond.”Santa Clara-based Silicon Valley Bank was closed on Friday by the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, a spectacular and rapid end to what had for decades been one of the pillars of financing in the white hot tech industry economy. It’s a complex and still developing story but what is known is that on Wednesday, the bank told investors it needed to raise just over $2 billion to offset $1.8 billion in losses it incurred from investments in mortgage backed securities, which were devalued thanks to the Fed’s decision to raise interest rates.Despite the somewhat routine nature of the announcement, the next day, in what one investor described as “This was a hysteria-induced bank run,” dozens of SVB’s venture capital clients — urged on by billionaire Peter Thiel — attempted to pull their assets from the bank.More to come…

Roku Says $487 Million of Its Cash, or 26%, Was Held in Failed Silicon Valley Bank

Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor About one-fourth of Roku’s cash and equivalents — nearly half a billion dollars — has been held in Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), which was shut down by financial regulators Friday after it collapsed. And the streaming platform company said it’s unsure the extent to which it will be able to recover that cash. SVB, after it faced a run on deposits and failed to raise capital to make up the shortfall, was closed by the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, which appointed the FDIC as receiver of its assets. Roku disclosed in an SEC filing that about $487 million of its $1.9 billion in cash and equivalents is held at SVB, or about 26% of the company’s cash and cash equivalents balance as of March 10. The remaining $1.4 billion is “distributed across multiple large financial institutions,” Roku said in the filing.
