Filipino Producers of David Byrne’s ‘Here Lies Love’ and Union Demanding a Live Orchestra Explain What They Each See at Stake for Broadway’s Future (EXCLUSIVE)

Here Lies Love,” advertising a score by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim and direction by the ground-breaking Tony winner Alex Timbers. The show’s logo is superimposed over a mirror ball, literally reflecting the production’s highly unusual immersive nightclub setting, a semi-ironic counterpoint to a sobering story about the rise and fall of fascistic Filipino power couple Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos in the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. The tag line above that disco totem: “The Revolutionary Music Experience.” It’s a revolution that the union representing Broadway musicians would like to stop in its tracks, at least in its current form. And with the show set to open for previews in less than two weeks, the production and the Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians remain at loggerheads about how “Here Lies Love” will, or should, proceed.

'Vanderpump Rules' Reunion Sneak Peek: Find Out Why Lala Kent Is in Tears (Exclusive)

reunion continues with more emotional roller-coaster moments."Scandoval," the season-ending aftermath of Tom Sandoval's affair with one-time buddy James Kennedy's ex-fiancèe, Raquel Leviss — which all played out behind the back of Tom's longtime girlfriend, Ariana Madix — takes a backseat in ET's exclusive sneak peek, as more season 10 aftershocks play out between host Andy Cohen and other members of the cast: Lisa Vanderpump, Lala Kent, James and his girlfriend, Ally Lewber. Ally, who was not present in part one, joins the crew onstage, now seated between James and Lala. Andy asks her about the advice she received from Lala and Raquel over the course of the season, sort-of warnings against James' intense and sometimes indefensible behavior.«Did you ever feel like telling Lala or Raquel to stay out of your relationship?» he queries, eliciting a laugh out of the  newcomer.«You can say, yes,» Lala reassures Ally, after she turns to her for permission.«I mean, I think at that time, I was kinda open to hear what they had to say, but now looking back, I do feel like I could've been a little bit more, like, protective of us,» she offers, gesturing to James.«I think at that point in time, I was extremely triggered by my own situation and I was just feeling like I didn't want anything that had happened to me to happen to other chicks,» Lala shares, her eyes welling up.

Organized by C21 Media, the panel kicked off with Axel Kuschevatzky, director-owner of Infinity Hill, a producer of the Oscar-shortlisted “Argentina 1985,” who pointed out the asymmetry of the Latino experience in the U.S. entertainment biz, a persistent conundrum where 19% of the U.S. population is Latino, contributing an estimated $3.2 trillion to the economy, but where its representation on TV, streaming and theatrical hovers between 3%.and 5%. “We’re earning a lot of money for a lot of people but we’re not reclaiming the business that comes along with it,” Kuschevatzky asserted.

Peru Plans for More Productions

Anna Marie de la Fuente Big changes are afoot in Peru, thanks to Paramount’s mega-budgeted “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” which shot there in 2021, literally saving hundreds of jobs badly hit by a six-month pan- demic lockdown. With street protests now a distant memory, talks are underway to address concerns that will make Peru a more attractive location shoot, including such measures as launching a film commission, introducing fiscal incentives, improving equipment availability as well as more training and support for the local audiovisual industry. The need for these filming incentives were driven pain- fully home when the producers behind the “Paddington in Peru,” the third film in the hit “Paddington” series, opted to shoot in Colombia because of its coveted rebates. While some second-unit filming will be done in Peru, the bulk will be shot in Colombia and London.
