Snow will begin falling tonight in some boroughs, with more to come tomorrow morning (Tuesday March 14). A yellow weather warning was issued by forecasters this morning (March 13), which will come into effect later today.
The warning will be in place from 5pm on Monday, to 10am on Tuesday morning. The alert said: “Rain, sleet and snow followed by ice is likely to cause some impacts to travel. Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

"[Expect] some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces, and [there will] probably be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.”
The warning covers all of Greater Manchester, and the rest of the north of England. Mainland Scotland is also affected, as is most of Wales and parts of the Midlands.
The precipitation map from the Met Office shows how much snow is predicted to fall, where and when. The colour blue signifies rainfall, grey and white shows snow and red and orange stand for hail.
The darkest shade of blue shows more than 4mm of rain per hour, light blue shows between 0.5 to 4mm of rain per hour and the lightest shade shows less than 0.5mm of rainfall. Dark grey represents more than 4mm of snowfall per hour, light grey shows between 0.5 and 4mm and white represents less than 0.5mm.
Dark red shows more than 4mm of hail, orange shows between 0.5 and 4mm and light orange represents less than 0.5mm.
