Mancunians are being warned to take care this evening after the Met Office issued an urgent weather warning.
A yellow weather warning was issued by forecasters just after 11am this morning (March 13), which will come into effect later today. The warning will be in place from 5pm on Monday, to 10am on Tuesday morning (March 14).
It has been issued for snow and ice, which is set to impact travel, the Met Office believes. There is also a risk of injury during the junior doctors’ strike, so caution is being urged.

“Rain, sleet and snow followed by ice is likely to cause some impacts to travel,” the alert said.
“Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services. [Expect] some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces, and [there will] probably be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.”
The warning covers all of Greater Manchester, and the rest of the north of England. Mainland Scotland is also affected, as is most of Wales and parts of the Midlands.
It comes after our region was battered by snow last week, with drivers becoming trapped for up to seven hours on the M62, after severe snow drifts fell between junctions 22 and 20 on Friday (March 10). However, snow is not forecast here - but sleet is expected in the early hours of Tuesday.
The mercury will drop to 2C in Manchester at 5am, but more rural areas will see it be even colder. It's expected to be 1C in Oldham, with a chance of snow.
As is protocol, the Met Office has issued advice for dealing with the snow, including how best to drive in the conditions.
