In a sneak preview for her interview on Sunday Today with Willie Geist, Melissa revealed that she’s not able to watch it all because of her fear for getting caught doing it.
“I watched it with Vivian once, my oldest, and we watched the pilot…and I was watching her watch it,” she started, adding that she’s “also always afraid somehow, something’s going to happen, and I’m going to be found in a room watching my own thing. So I have a super paranoia about ‘I can’t watch my own stuff in the house.’”
Melissa adds, “For some reason I’m always like what if I pass out and paramedics come in and the takeaway is she was watching her own stuff, weird. Every time I turn on a tv and it’s me I’m like, ‘Oh god do I feel lightheaded. I don’t want to pass out in a room where my stuff’s playing.’”
She also spoke about the legacy that Gilmore Girls still has today.
“It’s had legs on it that I didn’t expect,” Melissa said. “It has had this generational legacy, young people that watched it, now that they have kids, and they watch it with their kids, and now their kids are watching it with their own friends.”
“It always meant a lot to me” she concluded, “hearing that ‘We’re in a stage where we’re not really connecting and it’s the one time a week that we can sit down and we’re cohesive’ and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh that’s quite a thing to be connected with.’”

Marc Malkin Senior Film Awards, Events & Lifestyle Editor You’d think CBS would have jumped at the chance to snag Carol Burnett’s “90 Years of Laughter + Love” birthday special. Not only did the comedy legend’s variety show run on the network for 11 seasons, but so did its 50th anniversary special in 2017. “We first went to CBS, but they passed,” Burnett told me at an FYC event for the birthday special. “I did my show with them and all my specials, so naturally we went to them.” Fortunately, NBC bought the special, and it went on to score an impressive 7.6 million viewers. It’s now favored to pick up an Emmy nomination. “NBC couldn’t have been greater,” she said. “They’ve been so supportive right from the get-go.”
