Manchester United could win both the FA Cup and League Cup in the same season for the first time ever against Manchester City this weekend.
Erik ten Hag sealed his first major trophy as United manager in February as goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford secured a 2-0 victory in the Carabao Cup final. Now, the Dutchman has the chance to do something no other Reds manager has ever done by guiding them to glory in both the League Cup and the FA Cup in the same season.
United have come close to completing this feat in the past. In the 1982/83 season, Ron Atkinson lost the League Cup final to Liverpool in extra time but beat Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup final later that year.

Just over a decade later, Sir Alex Ferguson completed a league and cup double as his side beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final but they had previously lost the League Cup final against Aston Villa. If United are successful on Saturday, it will be only the sixth time a team has won both of English football's domestic cup competitions in the same campaign.
Arsenal were the first to do so in 1992/93, while Liverpool are the only team to have done it twice, with last season’s successes following on from their 2000/01 triumphs. Chelsea in 2006/07 and City in 2018/19 are the only other teams to have done the domestic cup double.
Of course, should United win, they would also spoil City's hopes of winning the treble. After clinching the Premier League title earlier this month, the Blues face Inter Milan on June 10 in the Champions League final.
