A horror crash that left a driver with life-threatening injuries has sparked a major police probe in Moray.
The smash between a blue Toyota Yaris and a grey HGV tipper lorry took place on the B9013 Lossimouth to Lhanbryde road on Wednesday.
The car, travelling west, and the east-bound lorry collided at around 4.30pm.
Police and ambulance crews scrambled to the scene and the driver of the car, a 52-year-old man, was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Officers on Thursday confirmed his injuries were life-threatening.
His current medical condition is unknown at this stage.
The lorry driver was uninjured.
Police sealed off the road for around eight hours as their probe got underway.
Witnesses, anyone who might have seen the vehicles or those with dash-cam footage are urged to come forward.
Police are keen to speak to the driver of the car that was just in front of the Toyota right before the smash.
This motorist was not involved but might have information that could help with the investigation.
Road Policing Sergeant Steve Manson said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash or who may have seen either vehicle to get in touch. I would also ask anyone with dashcam footage which may assist to contact us. “I am particularly keen to trace a vehicle which was driving in front of the car just prior to the crash. The vehicle was not involved but the occupant may have information which could assist. "Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 2222 of April 13, 2022."
