A man has admitted raping and murdering Scots mum Jill Barclay in Aberdeen.
Rhys Bennett, 23, appeared from custody at the High Court in Edinburgh on Wednesday, May 24, where he admitted the horrific offences.
The mum-of-two was attacked as she walked home from a night out with friends in Dyce last year.
The 47-year-old’s body was discovered near an address on Stoneywood Road at around 3.30am on September 17 after fire crews were called to the scene.
A major murder investigation was launched by Police Scotland officers, who locked down the area for several days as they carried out extensive enquiries to catch the killer.
They later confirmed that Bennett, from Ballingry, Fife, had been charged with murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
In a heartbreaking statement released at the time of her death, the popular woman’s family said: “Jill was a deeply loved life partner, mother and daughter. We would now appreciate being left in peace to grieve privately.”
