‘Shucked’ review: Broadway’s best and funniest new musical

“Shucked” is the best new musical of the Broadway season so far. The Southern comfort show, with a tuneful country score by Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally and a superb book by Robert Horn, is just so damn funny. If any of the outrageous yokel characters open their mouths to do anything but sing, 99% of the time they will deliver a winning joke or pun. The receptive audience sits in a state of perpetual giggle, with heads bobbing up and down like buoys. An example of the sense of humor: A scamp named Peanut (Kevin Cahoon, brilliant) is a walking Poor Richard’s Almanac who colorfully announces his unhinged, universal truths as we howl back.

Ajay Devgn Talks ‘Bholaa,’ Lauds ‘RRR’ Oscar Success, Sets ‘Singham 3’ Start Date (EXCLUSIVE)

Naman Ramachandran Bollywood A-lister Ajay Devgn returns to the director’s chair with “Bholaa,” in which he also stars alongside Tabu. This is Devgn’s fourth directorial effort after “U Me Aur Hum” (2008), “Shivaay” (2016) and “Runway 34” (2022). A remake of 2019 Tamil-language hit “Kaithi,” “Bholaa” follows a prisoner who is going to meet his young daughter after being released from jail. However, he gets embroiled in an epic journey that sees him up against a drug cartel and helping the police. “We are keeping the basic storyline similar, obviously that’s the reason you make a remake, because we like the storyline. We’ve altered a lot of characters, a little bit of the screenplay, and the characteristics of people. The drama has changed in a way, the emotions have changed – somewhere I would say enhanced, more underlined,” Devgn told Variety.

Hulu’s ‘Up Here’ Tells a Y2K-Era Love Story, in Song: TV Review

Daniel D'Addario Chief TV Critic It’s an interesting, telling choice that “Up Here,” Hulu’s new musical sitcom starring Mae Whitman and Carlos Valdes, is set in 1999. Not merely is the turn of the century, according to the roughly 20-year nostalgia cycle, currently in vogue, but the particular sort of moment the Y2K era was lends texture and meaning to the story “Up Here” tells. Assaying a time just before the social web allowed loners to find one another, “Up Here” presents a winning and lovely pair of oddballs singing their hearts out, in disbelief at having found one another. Here, Whitman plays Lindsay, who was lectured in childhood to shield her spiky and odd side from peers in order to be liked. “You show people the nice parts, because believe me, that’s all that people want to see,” her mother (Katie Finneran) tells her; grown up, she’s terrified to show vulnerability at all.

Daisy May Cooper “in talks” to star as M in new James Bond film

James Bond film.According to The Sun, the This Country star is being eyed to bring a “comedic and quirky” edge to the role, which was previously portrayed by Ralph Fiennes and Judi Dench.A source told the publication: “Daisy is a close pal of [writer] Phoebe [Waller-Bridge], whose involvement in Bond was such a success that it sparked an unlikely conversation.“Suddenly the production team were getting excited about the prospect of really taking M in a different direction.“With Daniel [Craig] leaving, it seemed the time to start looking at changes across the board and the dynamic between Bond and M is at the heart of the films.”The source added: “So this opens the door to it being a bit lighter and more comedic going forwards – and will of course impact the direction the new 007 goes in too.”Earlier this week, Taron Egerton dismissed rumours that he could succeed Daniel Craig as the next 007, saying that he doesn’t think he’s “the right choice for it”.“You have to be consistently statuesque to be that guy. And that’s something that I am still striving for.
