‘Lioness’: Morgan Freeman That Latest To Join Taylor Sheridan’s Upcoming CIA Drama For Paramount+

It looks like Amazon and Gael García Bernal will join forces again after the buzzy world premiere of “Cassandro” at Sundance last month (read The Playlist’s review here). The Hollywood Reporter reports that Bernal joins Nicole Kidman for the upcoming Prime Video thriller “Holland, Michigan.” “Fresh” director Mimi Cave helms the project.

Yorkshire and London-based production company Tempo Productions today announced that Georgia Bayliff, former Head of Film at finance outfit Silver Reel, will join Tempo’s executive team, where she will co-produce company projects.

Nicole Kidman already has a strong partnership with HBO after “Big Little Lies” and “The Undoing.” Now she’ll team up with network again for a new limited series. Deadline reports that Kidman and Maya Erskine will star in “The Perfect Nanny,” with Erksine also serving as writer and showrunner.

Ava DuVernay‘s “Caste” has been shooting in Savannah, GA for weeks without any casting news save for “King Richard” star Aunjanue Ellis leading the cast. But now Deadline has the scoop on who joins Ellis for the upcoming film, and it’s an intriguing list.  Niecy Nash-Betts, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, Nick Offerman, Jasmine Cephas Jones, and Connie Nielson are all on board for DuVernay’s race drama.

Dennis Quaid is set to star opposite David Oyelowo in Paramount+’s new original series Bass Reeves, from Yellowstone co-creator/showrunner Taylor Sheridan.

Netflix has unveiled its 2023 feature film slate, consisting of 49 titles. 

It’s Taylor Sheridan’s world and the Duttons are just living in it. The Yellowstone co-creator has found major success with the Kevin Costner-led series, which led to several spinoffs including 1883, 1923 and the upcoming 1883: The Bass Reeves Story.

The reductive take on Taylor Sheridan-made media— and perhaps particularly, the gritty and rugged Paramount+ series “Mayor Of Kingstown” (co-created with Hugh Dillon, one of the series co-stars)— is that it’s macho, maybe even toxically masculine; narratives about aggressive men that feel they must defend their fiefdoms, no matter the size, no matter the cost. In that sense, Sheridan’s work feels so innately American, and maybe that’s why he gets labeled as a Red State creator so often, given so many of his gruff characters seem to have a “don’t tread on me” philosophy of life (think the beautiful loser criminals of “Hell or Highwater”).
