The BBC has announced that it will air a new documentary all about Kanye West which, needless to say, will be somewhat of a different programme than if it had been made two years ago.With a working title of ‘We Need To Talk About Kanye’, the documentary will be fronted by investigative journalist Mobeen Azhar, who previously made ‘The Battle For Britney’ which put the spotlight on the controversial conservatorship that controlled the life and career of Britney Spears until 2021.The new documentary will, among other things, look at West’s political ambitions in the US, and how the rapper ended courting so much controversy with his increasingly offensive and dangerous statements that he stalled his music career and other business ventures.The BBC says: “Unfolding against the backdrop of Ye’s 2024 election campaign, and at a time when his behaviour has sparked outrage and a re-evaluation of his place in popular culture, this one-off documentary follows Mobeen as he attempts to understand the complex journey that led Ye to become one of the most famous and creatively successful artists of his generation. But more recently, to condemnation and notoriety”.A transmission date for the new documentary is yet to be announced.

Kanye West‘s anti-semitic remarks are linked to 30 different hate incidents in the US, according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).The Anti-Defamation League – an international Jewish non-governmental, anti-hate organisation – released a report yesterday (February 13) that referred to 30 anti-semitic incidents that directly referenced the rapper’s comments about Jewish people.“These incidents — which include vandalism, banner drops, targeted harassment and campus propaganda distributions — demonstrate the ongoing influence of Ye’s conspiratorial, bigoted rants,” the ADL wrote in the report.It continued that “immediately following Ye’s antisemitic comments” which included “inflammatory tropes about Jewish power and Holocaust denial”, the slogan ‘Ye is Right’ surfaced online in hashtags and anti-semitic accounts.“The ADL Center on Extremism has also tracked references to “Ye is Right” in instances of on-the-ground antisemitic vandalism and harassment nationwide,” it continued.“These incidents – only some of which are perpetrated by known extremists – demonstrate how references to Ye, often paired with swastikas or other antisemitic slurs, have become mainstream shorthand for the hatred of – or a desire to commit violence against – Jewish people.”In a statement to Billboard, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said: “Kanye West’s repeated antisemitic remarks – and his dredging up some of the worst anti-Jewish tropes imaginable – doubtlessly are having an impact and inspiring people to commit real-world acts of hate.“As we have long maintained, celebrities and others who engage in spreading hateful tropes need to know their words have consequences.

Completing those formalities took some time because West proved rather tricky to locate.Law firm Greenberg Traurig was one of the plethora of West’s business partners that sought to cut ties with the rapper last year once he started spouting ever more controversial and offensive statements.The judge overseeing the ‘Flowers’ copyright litigation granted Greenberg Traurig’s motion to withdraw from the case at the end of November, but also ordered the law firm to personally serve West with a ‘withdrawal order’ that stated it is no longer representing him in the case.Serving that paperwork proved to be a challenge, because West had changed his address and phone number, and all the representatives the lawyers use to talk to had likewise cut their ties with the musician.Last month the lawyers told the judge they were struggling to find West to serve the papers and asked if they could formally part company with the rapper through less conventional channels.

The lawyers who were representing Kanye West on a sample lawsuit in relation to ‘Donda 2’ track ‘Flowers’ have confirmed that they are still struggling to formally alert the rapper that they have bailed on the case.To that end they have proposed to the court that is overseeing the litigation that they formally break ties with West via adverts in two LA newspapers.Among the plethora of business partners which sought to cut their ties with West last year – as he started making ever more controversial, racist and anti-semitic remarks – were a number of legal firms.That included Greenberg Traurig LLP, which was representing West in a lawsuit filed against him by Ultra Music Publishing over allegations ‘Flowers’ sampled Marshall Jefferson track ‘Move Your Body’ without licence.The court overseeing the sample case granted Greenberg Traurig’s motion to withdraw from the sample litigation at the end of November, but also ordered the law firm to personally serve West with a ‘withdrawal order’ that stated they are no longer representing him in the case.However, the lawyers have been struggling to locate West in order to serve that order. They previously asked the court if they could do the serving via text message.
