The second weekend of June is when the tentpole events of Capital Pride annually occur. It’s also when the Nation’s Capital, a progressive, inclusive, and diverse city year-round, reaches Pride fever pitch.
Hundreds of thousands of residents and tourists emerge to celebrate the LGBTQ community.Yet a week out, there’s already a palpable Pride-affirming feeling in the air — a sentiment partly conveyed in this year’s Capital Pride theme, “Peace, Love, Revolution” — not to mention all the buildings, homes, streets, and sidewalks festooned and decked out in rainbow-centric decor. What follows is a selective rundown of Pride-related highlights starting this weekend and going through next, with links provided for more information. For all official events, visit www.capitalpride.org.While not exclusively focused on Pride-related nightlife, a majority of the events and activities highlighted here do take place at area bars and nightclubs.
And for good reason: Bars are the lifeblood of any LGBTQ community, and the birthplace of many notable, even revolutionary ideas and developments. None of them have been quite as revolutionary as New York’s Stonewall Inn, where in 1969, the push for gay rights and freedoms helped spark the LGBTQ movement.More than 50 years later, even in a time of social media, bars and nightclubs are still a key gathering place for queer people.
They play a critical role in helping to shape our identities and interests, as well as to meet others like us who become friends and partners — part of our chosen families. All of that happens all of the time, all year round. Yet Pride is special, drawing more LGBTQ people out and about than pretty much any other event or occasion any given year, possibly excepting for

Randy Rainbow creatively announced his 2023-2024 stand-up tour through a song selling why he would make a great presidential candidate, and he also told Ron DeSantis to “go get bent.”When asked what distinguishes him from other candidates, Rainbow broke into song.“I have always been just useless when it comes to many things like legislation, deficits and stocks,” he began. “But if you’d like a sassy head of state who also sings, the next time you’re electing one perhaps you’ll check my box.”“If all hope is gone or every day’s a big ol’ yawn then at election time, gurl, this is what you do,” he continued.
“SIX The Musical,” running at the Lena Horne Theatre, is as hot as ever. The upbeat 80-minute musical follows the lives of Henry VII’s six wives and how they moved on — “divorced, beheaded, died…divorced, beheaded, survived.” Over the course of the production, the Queens compete to determine who will be the lead singer of their band — winner is whomever was treated the worst by the King. The music in “SIX” is pop with a feminist tinge; for our money, the show feels more like a concert than theater.Don’t lose your head — be smart and take advantage of the affordable, available ticket prices for “SIX” while you can.At the time of publication, we found tickets going for as low as $78 before fees on Vivid Seats—not a bad price to catch a Tony-winning show live. We’ve got everything you need to know and more about seeing “SIX” live on Broadway. All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.Interestingly enough, “SIX” only runs five days a week.As of now, audiences can catch the show eight times a week, Wednesday through Sunday at Broadway’s Lena Horne Theatre — there are no Monday or Sunday performances.

Take That‘s Howard Donald has been dropped from a Pride event after Twitter users noticed he had liked a series of anti-LGBTQ+ tweets. The tweets that Donald had liked reportedly featured content from Andrew Tate, posts criticising a trans-inclusive period campaign, videos of anti-trans pundit Posie Parker (whose real name is Kellie-Jay Keen), and a tweet from Turning Point UK founder Charlie Kirk that called for Disney to be “defunded” for announcing a Pride event.Following widespread backlash, Donald then deleted his Twitter account. The Take That vocalist had been lined up to headline the Groovebox Nottingham Pride Festival, which is set to take place in Blinks Yard on July 29.Now, Groovebox has confirmed in a statement posted to Facebook that he will no longer be appearing.“In light of recent events, Howard Donald will no longer be playing at our Nottingham Pride Festival on Saturday 29th July at Binks Yard,” they wrote.“We would like to offer our thanks to the public for alerting us to the situation this morning and also appreciate your patience whilst we spoke to the relevant parties.“We are working on confirming a replacement headliner alongside Horse Meat Disco, Tayce, Danny Beard & ESSEL for Nottingham Pride and will make an announcement in due course.”Deeply disappointing to see Take That’s Howard Donald liking transphobic and homophobic tweets – while playing Pride festivals. The LGBT community made that band.
Take That’s Howard Donald has been dropped from an upcoming Pride festival after liking tweets he admitted were 'derogatory towards the LGBTQIA+ community'. After outraged fans shared screenshots of tweets he had 'favourited', organisers decided to remove him from the line-up, the Mirror reports.
live podcasts at huge venues. While it might sound like an episode of “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia,” we’re happy to report this is really happening. This fall, The Always Sunny Pod is embarking on a brief two-show tour that will take Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney and Glenn Howerton (plus, fingers crossed Danny DeVito and Kaitlin Olson!) to Philadelphia and New York City.First up, the trio will crack wise at Philly’s TD Pavilion at the Mann on Saturday, Sept.
“Prima Face” is running for just three more weeks at New York City’s John Golden Theatre until it closes its Midtown Manhattan run on Sunday, July 2.And if you want tickets to see the hot-button play about a criminal defense lawyer with questionable morals who has her world upended, we’re here to help make that happen ASAP.If you’re looking for cheap tickets, the lowest price we could find at the time of publication was $126 before fees on Vivid Seats. That being said, last-minute tickets tend to be quite a bit more expensive for “Prima Facie” — tickets for the June 15 and June 16 shows will cost you a pretty penny. However, it’s hard to put a price tag on seeing Comer’s revelatory award-winning performance live.According to the NY Post’s Johnny Oleksinki’s glowing 3.5-star review “…we have just witnessed the emergence of an extraordinary new stage talent.”Want to see “Prima Facie” live before Comer takes her final bow? Here’s everything you need to know and more about how to make that happen. All prices are subject to fluctuation.A complete calendar including all dates, show start times and links to the cheapest tickets available can be found below.(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time.
“Leopoldstadt” won big at the 76th annual Tony Awards taking home trophies for Best Play, Best Male Featured Performance, Best Costume Design and Best Direction. There’s only one problem. The decorated show is closing in three weeks on Sunday, July 2 after opening back in October 2022.At the time of publication, there are only 24 more productions of the sprawling yet intimate family drama about a wealthy Viennese Jewish family that begins in 1899 and ends in 1955.Much to our surprise though, tickets are shockingly affordable considering how few shows remain and its pedigree. At the time of publication, we found tickets to see director Patrick Marber’s going for as low as $68 before fees on Vivid Seats. That’s a bargain for any Broadway show, let alone a four-time (!) Tony winner. As an added bonus, we found that every single remaining show has tickets available for below $100 before fees.Want to find out how much tickets cost for the show that the NY Post’s Johnny Oleksinski said “you won’t regret seeing”?We’ve got everything you need to know and more below. All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.A complete breakdown of the last 24 “Leopoldstadt” showings at the Longacre Theatre including including dates, start times and links to the cheapest tickets available can be found below.(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time.
