The Sunday Times has named three Greater Manchester areas in its list of the best places to live in the UK this year. The comprehensive guide, which is released annually, looks at all areas across the UK and assesses the qualities that make up a desirable area to live.
Along with Ancoats and Stockport, Sale was featured on the list as one of Greater Manchester's best areas. The Trafford town has become a popular place to live, work and visit in recent years thanks to recent investment which has brought the town centre to life.
Built along the Bridgewater Canal, Sale includes the areas of Sale Moor and Ashton on Mersey. It boasts a variety of independent and well-known shops, cafes, bars and restaurants with its central hub Stanley Square having become a buzzing food, drink and shopping destination.

It also features a wide range of green spaces, woodlands and waterways, with Trafford Water Sports Centre at Sale Water Park offering activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing and sailing, as well as leisurely walks by the River Mersey or the Bridgewater Canal.
Sale was chosen by The Sunday Times' expert panel as an alternative to Altrincham, which has been named on the list for the last six years but has been replaced this year.
The Sunday Times' judges said: "Au revoir, Altrincham. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then the 2020 Best Places to Live winner has a super-fan in its neighbour Sale — that or Alty property has become too expensive. Either way, this Trafford town has top-class school, a buzzing café scene and is so well connected that you can live here car-free."
