Giancarlo Esposito Joins Francis Ford Coppola’s Sci-Fi Epic ‘Megalopolis’

At 80 years old, Harrison Ford is busier than ever. He’s the star of an AppleTV+ dramedy in “Shrinking” with Jason Segel, he plays a hardnosed cowboy in the “Yellowstone” prequel series, “1923,” and he’s joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be playing General Thunderbolt Ross in “Captain America: New World Order” (and possibly may turn up in “Thunderbolts” too).

Steven Spielberg’s “Indiana Jones” franchise is generally well-beloved, and yes, it has its mystical, supernatural, and paranormal elements—see the end of “Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade” or even, hell, the end of “Raiders Of The Lost Ark.” Geez, there were all kinds of wild iterations that almost made it to the screen like “Indiana Jones and the Saucermen from Mars,” Frank Darabont’s “Indiana Jones and The City of The Gods,” but for whatever reason, the alien elements in “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull,” were a bridge too far for most audiences.

One can only imagine the blank check that Bill Lawrence has from Apple TV+ after the massive success of his “Ted Lasso,” which he co-created and has won the company dozens of awards, putting them on the TV map. He used that cachet for this week’s likable dramedy “Shrinking,” a show that almost brazenly sets up character archetypes and then asks its cast to push through the clichés of their shallow descriptions.

You might not think that a TV series about a therapist struggling with the death of his wife and a career listening to other people talk about their issues would be a comedy from the co-creator of “Ted Lasso.” And yet, “Shrinking” does appear to be another Bill Lawrence-produced, feel-good comedy, coming to Apple TV+ later this month. As mentioned, in the trailer for “Shrinking,” we see the series follows the story of a grieving therapist (Jason Segel), as he struggles to come to terms with his wife’s sudden passing, while also raising a young daughter and trying to balance a career.

The journey continues. The Mandalorian is preparing to expand the world previously introduced in the first two seasons of the Disney+ series.

With Marvel Studios always teasing what’s to come, whether it’s a new character or an entirely new franchise, with its big Phase announcements, there is consistently rabid fan-casting, as people desperately try to come up with who they think is one of the best options for these characters. Lately, one of the most popular fan-castings out there is Giancarlo Esposito as Professor Charles Xavier in the rebooted “X-Men” franchise.

Disney+ released the trailer for Tha Mandalorian Season 3 during halftime of the NFL Super Wild Card matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Star Wars spinoff from Lucasfilm will start streaming on March 1. Watch the trailer in the video posted above.
