death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022.The band revealed in a livestream event that Josh Freese, 50, will be joining members Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee behind the drum set for their upcoming tour.In Sunday’s “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts,” the Grammy-winning rock band showed a skit where they teased iconic drummers interrupting a session at Studio 606, including Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee and Tool’s Danny Carey.Smith came in complaining of a Mercedes blocking him, Lee arrived at the studio with takeout from P.F. Chang’s, and Carey came in to tell the band that he got their poodles groomed for them — but ultimately, the skit cuts to Freese.“Um, excuse me! Guys can we just, like, I don’t know, play a song or two, something?” an annoyed Freese says in the bit, revealing him as the drummer before rehearsing “All My Life.”It’s unclear if Freese will become a permanent member of Foo Fighters or is simply filling in as the band launches their tour.Foo Fighters officially have a new drummer !! Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor As expected, Foo Fighters revealed their new drummer during a livestreamed event on Sunday: And as expected, it’s veteran session man and longtime friend Josh Freese. The band launches a massive tour — their first without drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died tragically in Colombia last year — in New Hampshire on May 24. While the band announced its intention to continue late last year, they went to great lengths not to reveal the identity of their new drummer. They played into this during the opening moments of the livestream, called “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts,” which featured all of the members joking around with each other in their rehearsal room, with their guitars on.

Thania Garcia The Foo Fighters are gearing up for a bustling touring season — their first without drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died tragically in Colombia last year — that kicks off with a date in New Hampshire in the coming week. Taking on the challenge of filling Hawkins’ role, as Variety tipped back in January, will be Josh Freese. Although the name might not seem entirely familiar at first glance, it’s more than likely you’ve either heard and even own a record that has him listed in the credits. Freese joins the group after having played alongside a star-studded lineup for the Hawkins tribute concerts that the Foos put together in London and Los Angeles last fall. He’s also a longtime friend of both Grohl and Hawkins and is a seasoned session act who has performed and toured with rock bands Guns N’ Roses, A Perfect Circle, Puddle of Mudd, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Paramore, the Replacements, Sting and the Vandals, to name a few. Freese was most recently drumming for Danny Elfman and the Offspring, with whom he was touring up until last year.
