The Foo Fighters have revealed that they have a new drummer joining the band, a year after Taylor Hawkins’ death. Josh Freese, who has been performing with the band at tribute concerts in memory of Taylor, has previously played drums for The Offspring, Sting, Paramore, Lana Del Rey, Rob Zombie, Bruce Springsteen, A Perfect Circle, Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, the Vandals and Weezer, among others. In recent months, speculation regarding who the Foo Fighters’ new drummer would be has been rife, with Josh and Rufus Taylor of The Darkness both rumoured to be taking on the role.

Foo Fighters debuted their new track ‘Nothing At All’ in a livestream yesterday (May 21).The livestream, titled Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts, was recorded at the band’s 606 studios in Northridge, California. It featured debut performances of songs from their forthcoming album, as well as behind-the-scenes footage of the recording.The band played an eight-song set during their rehearsal, which was shot in black and white.

Foo Fighters have enlisted the help of a new drummer, just over one year after the death of Taylor Hawkins. Hawkins died in March 2022 at his hotel in Bogotá, Colombia, while on tour with the band. He was 50.The announcement came during a livestreamed event on Sunday, in which the band revealed that Josh Freese, session drummer and longtime friend of Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl, was joining the band for their upcoming tour. Titled, «Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts,» the livestream saw the band, which till now was comprised of Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee, playfully announce their new drummer by teasing fans with a gameshow like reveal.In succession, three top-notch drummers knocked on the door of the band's rehearsal room --  Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee, and Tool's Danny Carey — saying things like, «There’s a white Mercedes blocking my car,» or «Hey I got the PF Changs!» and «I groomed your poodles for you,» while the band members responded by saying things like, «We’ll be right there!»It's then a voice is heard shouting, «Um… EXCUSE ME?!» When the band looks to see who it is, Freese is seen sat behind a drumkit that had been strategically placed off-camera.«Can we play a song or something?!» he asks before the band starts playing songs from their new album, .Freese is a natural choice for the group, as he's a friend of both Grohl and Hawkins and is a veteran session drummer who has performed with a stacked set of bands, including, Guns N' Roses, A Perfect Circle, Puddle of Mudd, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Paramore, the Replacements, Sting and the Vandals.

The band launches a massive tour — their first without drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died tragically in Colombia last year — in New Hampshire on May 24. While the band announced its intention to continue late last year, they went to great lengths not to reveal the identity of their new drummer. They played into this during the opening moments of the livestream, called “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts,” which featured all of the members joking around with each other in their rehearsal room, with their guitars on.

Taking on the challenge of filling Hawkins’ role, as Variety tipped back in January, will be Josh Freese. Foo Fighters have shared the ‘Under You’ — the latest single to be released from their forthcoming album — and announced a free global streaming event.Shared today (May 17), the single is the second that the rock veterans have taken from their upcoming 11th studio album ‘But Here We Are’, following on from ‘Rescued‘ last month.Set for release on June 2 via Roswell Records/Columbia Records, the LP will mark their first new material since the passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022.The band first teased the new track earlier this week by sharing a 25-second snippet online. This featured the emotive lyrics: “I woke up and walked a million miles today / I’ve been looking up and down for you / All this time it stills feels just like yesterday / That I walked a million miles with you.”The track is takes on an upbeat pop-rock sentimentality, with both singles drawing upon the emotive rock sounds of their 1995 self-titled debut, and the dynamic songwriting seen with their fan-favourite LP ‘The Colour And The Shape’.
