The Foo Fighters have revealed that they have a new drummer joining the band, a year after Taylor Hawkins’ death. Josh Freese, who has been performing with the band at tribute concerts in memory of Taylor, has previously played drums for The Offspring, Sting, Paramore, Lana Del Rey, Rob Zombie, Bruce Springsteen, A Perfect Circle, Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, the Vandals and Weezer, among others. In recent months, speculation regarding who the Foo Fighters’ new drummer would be has been rife, with Josh and Rufus Taylor of The Darkness both rumoured to be taking on the role.
Josh is the 50 year old son of tuba soloist Stan Freese and unveiled as the new Foo Fighters drummer on a livestream. The drummer’s next performance with the Foo Fighters will take place on Wednesday.The Grammy-winning group announced the move in a livestream, which was previewing their next studio album.They also shared a snippet of the stream on Instagram. In the clip, Josh is seen showing off his skills on the drums as the band performs one of their new songs.
The band’s new album But Here We Are is due to drop on 2 June.The new album, which features 10 tracks, will be “a testament to the healing powers of music, friendship and family”. Following the appointment of their new drummer, Foo Fighters will embark on a tour and release their first album since Taylor’s death. Taylor died aged 50 on 25 March 2022 in Bogota, Columbia, in the middle of the band’s tour.
