The heartbroken family of a man who died in Aberdeen at the weekend has paid tribute to the "one-of-kind" father and grandad.
A 50-year-old man was allegedly attacked on Carmelite Lane near Union Square on Sunday, March 12. Police have now named him as Steven Johnson.
Steven, who had seven children and four grandchildren, tragically died at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary two days later on the evening of Tuesday, March 14.
In a statement, his family said they are living through a "nightmare". They said: “Steven was a loving and amazing father, husband, grandad, brother and uncle. He had so much to live for and so many more memories to make with us all.
"He was one-of-a-kind and our hearts are broken, there are no words. He’s been taken from his five sons, two daughters and four grandchildren and our lives will never be the same again.
“All his family would like to thank everyone for their support, kind words and comments. We’d appreciate being left to grieve and try to come to terms with this nightmare.”
A 45-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident on Carmelite Lane, with further enquiries remaining ongoing.
Detective Inspector Jamie Sherlock said: "Our investigation has established there were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident and I continue to urge anyone who has any information, but hasn’t yet spoken to police, to please call us on 101, quoting incident number 3471 of 12 March, 2023. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be given anonymously.”

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Mariëtte Rissenbeek, who heads over the Berlin International Film Festival along with Carlo Chatrian, has decided to step down after next year’s edition. German Culture Minister Claudia Roth said she regretted Rissenbeek’s decision, but praised her for prompting a “generational change” within the leadership of the cultural institution. Rissenbeek, an industry veteran who previously worked as managing director of promotion agency German Films, has reached retirement age in Germany (at 67). In a Twitch stream on Tuesday, Van Dien — who played Chrissy Cunningham on the most recent season of “Stranger Things” — revealed that she has turned down four movie roles in the last two and a half weeks and will be focusing more of her time on streaming. “Here’s the thing, I have seen that some people are upset with me for turning down acting projects and deciding to stream more, but the fact of the matter is the last few projects I’ve worked on I didn’t have the best experiences with some of the people I had to work for,” Van Dien said.
