Police have issued a warning after a group of young people were spotted climbing onto a signal gantry over train tracks in Salford.
The children were spotted climbing the structure on Sunday (March 12) afternoon, police said. They had scaled the signal gantry near the New Moss Road overbridge in Cadishead which runs over the Manchester to Liverpool railway line.
Police said this was 'extremely dangerous' with trains travelling up to 85 miles per hour below. Officers said they 'are looking to support the community to prevent further incidents taking place' as they urged parents to highlight the dangers of 'using the railway as a playground' to children.

A post on the GMP Eccles, Cadishead, Barton & Irlam Facebook page last night said: "There was an incident on 12th March 2023 at 1300Hrs at NEW MOSS ROAD OVERBRIDGE, CADISHEAD. The incident involved a report of young people CLIMBING A SIGNAL GANTRY, situated lineside on the the Manchester to Liverpool railway line with trains travelling up to 85 miles per hour.
"This is an extremely dangerous activity and we are looking for the support of the community to help prevent further incidents taking place. Parents and guardians can assist by highlighting to their children the dangers of using the he railway as a playground and anyone witnessing any incidents on the railway can report this directly to British Transport Police on the number below.
"If anyone has any information involving this incident or any other incident concerning the railway. Please contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or text on 61016."
