DWP benefits older people can no longer claim when they reach State Pension age

Basic and New State Pension payments will increase next week by 10.1 per cent for some 12.6 million older people across the country, including around one million living in Scotland.

An estimated 19.2 million families and 39.8 million individuals across Great Britain currently in receipt of State Pension or benefits from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will see their payments go up by 10.1 per cent next week. However, due to payments made in arrears most people will not see a difference until May.

State Pension payments are set to increase by 10.1 per cent from April for some 12.6million people across Great Britain, including 992,052 living in Scotland. However, despite a record-breaking rise in payments of the contributory benefit, it is estimated that around 1.8 million pensioners are receiving less than £100 per week in State Pension payments.

A series of payments and DWP benefits will be uprated from next week as we enter a new tax year.

A top energy expert is warning that “a few thousand” people over State Pension age only have until the end of this week to claim winter heating bill help, worth up to £600. Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen was violently attacked outside the Four Seasons hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.According to The Daily Mail, 19-year-old Max Edward Hartley was arrested for the incident, which took place over the weekend.Allen was smoking outside the hotel when Hartley allegedly emerged from behind a pillar and rushed at the drummer, knocking him to the ground.A police report confirmed that Allen “hit his head on the ground causing injury” and that a woman attempted to help, but was attacked by Hartley multiple times and dragged by the hair.Hartley reportedly fled the scene but was eventually arrested after being caught breaking car windows near the hotel. He was charged with two counts of battery, four counts of criminal mischief, and abusing an “elderly or disabled adult.”According to The Daily Mail, Hartley was arrested and taken to Broward County Jail on Tuesday (March 14).
