After years of playing a humble scullery maid in Downton Abbey, Sophie McShera was thrilled to land a “lady of the manor” role in a gripping new period drama. Sophie stars as powerhouse Grace in acclaimed film director Shane Meadows’ BBC drama The Gallows Pole. “Maybe I’m delusional,” Sophie, 37, says.
“But this feels like my version of lady of the manor because she’s right up there.” “Grace is in charge, she’s respected in that community, as it goes on, she’s powerful. And that’s as ‘lady of the manor’ as you could get. It felt amazing getting to play someone with that kind of status.” The Gallows Pole is an adaptation of Benjamin Myers’ novel and is based on a remarkable true story.

So, I wanted to do the man himself justice.” Not only did Michael immerse himself in the part of David but he also relished the opportunity to tackle a role that’s set in a different time period, especially when it came to the costumes. “I’m normally in tracksuit bottoms, so to walk on set wearing clogs and garters, I really enjoyed it!” he says. “I felt good wearing them.

over 11 seasons, an indomitable walker-killing mom and onetime leader of the Hilltop Colony, is venturing into NYC with Negan (former Alexa cover star Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the reformed baseball bat-wielding maniac and killer of Maggie’s husband, Glenn (Steven Yeun). It’s an inspired pairing, and things are gonna be awkward: In the “Walking Dead” finale, Maggie tells an apologetic Negan she can never forgive him.For a performer who’s spent more than a decade steeped in fictional death and destruction — yes, the walking dead on the show can be metaphorical, but also, there’s a lot of killing — Cohan really comes alive talking about the experience.
It’s a testament to Jeffrey Wright’s onscreen presence that he is now the longest-serving Felix Leiter — an often-thankless part that’s perhaps the 007-universe equivalent of a Star Trek redshirt — in the entire James Bond franchise. William Earl Dave Matthews has a lot on his mind. When asked “What inspired the new Dave Matthews Band album?”, he pauses for a moment and then unloads. By his account, “Walk Around the Moon” (out today, via RCA) touches on: his children; “the futility of our struggles” as a human race; gun violence; love; modern political discourse; gratitude. But then he backs up, and mentions how he’s been considering “The sheer magnitude of how impossible it is that we’re here, that we exist. What an awe inspiring event it is, and that this planet is so hospitable.” It’s a sentiment that’s been at the core of Matthews’ songwriting for decades. One of his earliest hits — the gentle fan favorite “Satellite” — has the singer marveling at the titular device swirling through the cosmos: “Look up, look down, all around.” It’s a curiosity for life that’s guided him into becoming one of the most successful rock artists of all time.
