Dean Gaffney has revealed he put on almost a stone in weight while starring on I’m A Celebrity South Africa, while his campmates were “wilting away”. EastEnders favourite Dean, 45, first starred on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2006, and made his highly anticipated return to camp late last year for the spin-off All Star series that’s currently airing on ITV.
During his first stint, the actor lost a whopping two stone, but this time round was quite different. Chatting on Good Morning Britain today, Thursday 11 May, Dean blamed his weight gain on the fact that he and his campmates kept winning their trials.
“It was brilliant!” he said. “For me it was an absolute breeze going into camp, I went in there for six, seven days, I ate like a King and it was nice! “That’s the thing in camp, people do lose weight.
When I was in the original camp, with David Gest, rest his soul, I lost two stone and now I’ve put on nearly a stone!” Dean’s campmates poked fun at his weight gain in camp as the likes of Paul Burrell said he was able to feel his pelvis after losing so much weight. “I can really feel my pelvis," he told the camp.
"It’s really poking out!I’m like a toast rack." Paul went on to joke: "I think Dean’s put weight on! Nobody puts weight on coming in the jungle." Agreeing, Dean said at the time: “Everyone’s slowly wilting away, apart from me.” A few pounds of weight wasn’t the only thing Dean gained while in the jungle, he also gained a friend in fellow EastEnders veteran Joe Swash.
