Elle Mulvaney is facing the toughest storyline of her career as her Coronation Street character Amy Barlow goes through a rape ordeal, but the young actress says her new boyfriend is her rock as she tackles the harrowing scenes. It’s a lot for even the most experienced star to play, as Amy wakes up to discover her best friend’s boyfriend Aaron (played by James Craven) has raped her after she passed out drunk. So the support of her boyfriend, ex-Corrie star Liam Scholes, 19, means everything to Elle, 20.
The pair, who revealed their relationship on Instagram in December after being spotted at Winter Wonderland together, met when Liam was playing baddie Eli Higginson in the soap, which Elle has starred in since she was just eight. If Elle is feeling stressed, Liam is always on hand with an impromptu date night - and although their romance is new, Elle admits it’s love already during an exclusive interview with OK!. “He’s been brilliant,” gushes Elle.
“because he’s an actor as well he knows what it entails. He’s coped with his fair share of backlash in the past when he played Eli in Corrie. He’s always really supportive and if I’ve had a bad day he’ll say, ‘Let’s go for a Chinese…’” So is it real love between the young starlets? “Yes!”confesses Elle, adding: “It’s going well, it’s going very well.” Next the couple are hoping they can get away for a holiday together – though Elle admits their work schedules are making it difficult, with Liam currently starring in Waterloo Road which is also filmed in Manchester.
