WGA Awards Doubles as Labor Rally: It ‘Feels Like There’s a Groundswell Towards a Strike’

Gene Maddaus Senior Media Writer Accepting the Writers Guild of America award for original screenplay on Sunday night, Daniel Kwan skipped past the typical thank-yous to his agent and manager and instead shouted out his strike captain. “Get involved,” he told the crowd. “If you don’t have a captain yet, go find one… Let’s go give ’em hell.” It was a fitting capstone on the event, which at times felt more like a labor rally than an awards show. The rest is window dressing at best, ‘Triumph of the Will’ at worst,” he said.

Why the Film Version of ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’ Made Creator Charlie Mackesy Cry

A version of this story about Charlie Mackesy and “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” will appear in the Down to the Wire issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.Charlie Mackesy’s bestselling 2019 book “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” is a slim illustrated volume in which very little happens apart from a conversation between four different creatures about kindness, love and accepting oneself.
