Channel 4 will axe part of its hit reality TV show SAS: Who Dares Wins after a run of eight series.The hit show sees a group of ex-army officials put a group of recruits through its Special Air Services training process, testing both emotional and physical strength in brutal challenges. But after a run of eight series, having first aired in 2015, Channel 4 have confirmed they will be axing the civilian version of the military training show.
A TV insider told The Sun: "Losing such a big-name show is a disturbing sign for C4 as it faces an uncertain future in a market which will be difficult for even the biggest broadcasters and streaming services. "Although the show’s celebrity spin-off will continue, losing the civilian version will be worrying given that it’s one of the channel’s best-known brands.The fear now is that it may be a sign of things to come." OK! has contacted Channel 4 for a comment.
It comes just two years after its well-known chief instructor, Ant Middleton was reportedly dismissed for what was described as his "personal conduct." He was later replaced by actor and former US Marine, Rudy Reyes. The announcement also comes after rumours emerged that the broadcaster is reviewing a number of its long-running shows.
But a spokesman for Channel 4 told The Sun: "Due to the huge success of Celebrity SAS we have shifted our focus to prioritise this strand. A longer, eight-part series is to commence filming in the summer.
