A Celtic fan lunged at a brazen Rangers supporter with a screwdriver following a row after an Old Firm game.
Michael Hay, 28, also made off with Jack McCafferty's car in Glasgow's Dennistoun on January 2, 2021. Mr McCafferty had earlier gone to Celtic Park to antagonise glum Hoops fans following their derby defeat at Ibrox.
Hay tried to confront Mr McCafferty before getting into a car and followed him home. It is there Hay tried to strike Mr McCafferty who was also armed with a baseball bat.
Hay then fled the scene in Mr McCafferty's unattended car which had the engine running. Hay pled guilty on Monday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Mr McCafferty and stealing his car.
He also admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
The court heard Mr McCafferty was driving home after the Rangers and Celtic match with the hosts won 1-0. Mr McCafferty passed Celtic Park on his route.
Prosecutor Heather Naismith said: "Mr McCafferty is a Rangers fan and by his own admission he intended to antagonise any Celtic fans he passed. He was sounding his horn and cheering out of his window."
Hay meantime was the passenger in a car travelling near to Mr McCafferty. Hay got out and pulled the handle of Mr McCafferty's car shouting to let him in.
Hay returned to the car he was in which followed Mr McCafferty back to his home. Mr McCafferty called his mum meantime to tell her he was being followed and asked for a baseball bat.
He stopped in the middle of the road and left the key in the ignition and engine running before retrieving the baseball bat.
