The new musical The Lonely Few is currently enjoying a sold-out run at Los Angeles’ Geffen Playhouse and it features powerhouse performances from Broadway stars Lauren Patten and Ciara Renee.
Lauren, a Tony Award winner for Jagged Little Pill, stars as Lila who is getting by in her Kentucky hometown—scanning groceries at the Save-A-Lot, caring for her erratic brother, and living for Friday nights, when she plays a gig with her band The Lonely Few. And that’s enough. Or she thought it was, until Amy (Renee), an established musician ragged from the road, passes through and offers her a shot at something much, much bigger. But is Lila ready for the life she never dared to imagine?
The world premiere musical completely sold out its run, but it has extended through April 30 and there are some limited tickets still available.
Both Lauren and Ciara are getting raves for their work in the musical.
“Renée’s voice is arresting, powerful, but as disciplined and carefully tuned as a stringed instrument. It’s the perfect sound for Amy, a woman whose history of heartbreak and abandonment has made her consumed with control,” Entertainment Weekly noted. “In contrast, Lila, played by Patten as if she were a naked fuse waiting for the right spark, has a far more untethered sound. Patten’s raw, forceful vocals drown us in her emotional turmoil, but that can often come at the cost of the clarity of the lyrics. Still, she produces such an impressive wall of sound from her petite frame, it scarcely matters.”

Prior to the judge’s decision, the prosecution announced the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office would not be proceeding with the remaining charges. Weinstein was sentenced last month to 16 additional years for his most recent conviction in L.A. He is appealing both of his convictions.
