Ange Postecoglou has opened talks with Joe Hart, Aaron Mooy and David Turnbull over their Parkhead futures. But the Celtic boss wants to know if their ambitions match his own before handing out new deals.
At the end of this season, key trio Hart, Mooy and Turnbull will have just 12 months left on their current contracts. Keeper Hart, 35, has been the club’s No.1 since arriving from Spurs, while Aussie midfielder Mooy is now a fans’ favourite.
Scotland ace Turnbull joined Celtic in 2020 but has recently struggled to nail down a starting slot ahead of Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and Mooy. The Hoops boss would like to keep them all beyond 2024. But he won’t make a decision on their futures until he’s convinced their vision is aligned with his. Last summer, Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic were in a similar position and after talks with the manager, both were allowed to leave.
Postecoglou has already opened dialogue with Hart, Mooy and Turnbull about how they see their Hoops careers panning out. The manager said: “It’s about having discussions with the players.
“I need to know where they’re at, where their heads are. Last year, we had Bitton and Rogic with a year left.
“It would have been easy for me to let them roll on for another year. But after discussions we came to a conclusion where they felt there were other opportunities they wanted to explore so they moved on which is fine.
“With those three guys (Hart, Mooy, Turnbull), I’m constantly talking to them about what their ambitions are. I want to make sure that every step of the way we’re looking after the player’s interests – but also looking after the club’s interests too.
“Every decision will be made against that backdrop.”
