A.V. Rockwell’s ‘A Thousand And One’ Gets Spring Release From Focus Features

EXCLUSIVE: Focus Features is getting back in business with musicians Ron and Russell Mael, after serving as the distributor for the 2021 Edgar Wright doc The Sparks Brothers, of which the duo were the subjects. The studio has today announced the launch of development on X Crucior, an original musical epic to be written and exec produced by the Maels.

Sony has moved Love Again, the romantic comedy starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Sam Heughan and Celine Dion, to May 12, 2023. It previously had a released date of February 10.

Focus Features has announced that it will release We Are Lady Parts creator Nida Manzoor’s feature directorial debut Polite Society in U.S. theaters on April 28, 2023. The action-comedy will be released internationally by Universal Pictures International, with its UK debut set for April 7, 2023.

Angelique Jackson Focus Features has set A.V. Rockwell’s “A Thousand and One,” starring Teyana Taylor, for theatrical release on March 31, 2023. Written and directed by A.V. Rockwell in her feature-length directorial debut, the film centers on unapologetic and free-spirited Inez (Taylor), who kidnaps her six-year-old son Terry from the foster care system. As the film’s official description explains, the story follows mother and son “holding onto their secret and each other,” as they “set out to reclaim their sense of home, identity, and stability, in a rapidly changing New York City.” “A Thousand and One” is produced by Sight Unseen’s Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev; Hillman Grad’s Lena Waithe and Rishi Rajani; and Makeready’s Brad Weston. Sight Unseen’s Oren Moverman is executive producing alongside Rachel Jacobs.

Good Grief, the feature directorial debut from Schitt’s Creek multi-Emmy winner Dan Levy, has set its cast including Loving Oscar nominee Ruth Negga, Yesterday‘s Himesh Patel, Beauty and the Beast‘s Luke Evans as well as Celia Imrie(Better Things, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Arnaud Valois (BPM (Beats Per Minute), Spring Blossom),David Bradley (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones) and Jamael Westman.

Thania Garcia Queen has shared a previously unreleased song titled “Face It Alone,” featuring unearthed Freddie Mercury vocals. The single, recorded during sessions for “The Miracle,” will be included in the 1989 album’s collector’s edition due on Nov. 18. News of the track started trickling out earlier this June when founding members Brian May and Roger Taylor announced its release in an interview following their performance at Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee concert. “We did find a little gem from Freddie, that we’d kind of forgotten about and it was — It’s wonderful,” Taylor told BBC Radio 2. “It was kind of hiding in plain sight,” May added. “We looked at it many times and thought, oh no, we can’t really rescue that. But in fact, we went in there again and our wonderful engineering team went, ‘OK, we can do this and this.’ It’s like kind of stitching bits together. But it’s beautiful, it’s touching.”

Apple is releasing Will Smith’s "Emancipation" thriller in December. The company was reportedly in talks to postpone the release of the film following the backlash Smith received after slapping Chris Rock on stage at the 2022 Oscars. Apple seemed to reach an agreement and released the trailer for the film on Monday.  "An enslaved man embarks on a perilous journey to reunite with his family in this powerful film inspired by a true story," the trailer was captioned.  The film premieres in theaters on Dec.
